Summer Fun



Summer is over and Fall is in the air....well, at least rain is in the air!  We had a nice summer, enjoying our family and the beauty around us.  In August I had a chance to go to the zoo with Michelle and 4 of our grandkids.  What a fun day, great weather and beautiful little faces.  It was Mason's first trip to the zoo and he loved it!  Ethan, Emma & Ava go to the zoo often and know all the good spots!

On August 25th, Nancy & Kevin left for an 8 day camping trip to Washington State.  We stayed 3 days up near Port Angeles, visiting the Olympic National Forest.  Then 3 days down at Lake Quinault, in the Quinault Rain Forest.  Our last 2 days were on the beach at Ocean City, near Ocean Shores, WA.  We had the most beautiful weather and a very relaxing vacation.  I, Nancy, even enjoyed our little camping trailer and all that came with it...for the most part!  I was glad when I finally got back to my regular bed!



 



Wild flowers up at Hurricane Ridge.  We saw quite a few beautiful little flowers as we walked along the hiking trails.  We also ran into a little bit of a snow patch on one of the trails!


 

The view of the Olympic mountain range from Hurricane Ridge was beautiful.  In one direction we saw the Olympics, in another the Cascade mountains and in another Victoria, Canada.  What a magnificent place.  On a clear day you can see forever......(I could sing that phrase for you if you want me to......)

One day we drove to Crescent Lake and enjoyed the beautiful view.  We (I) wanted to canoe on the lake, but the water seemed a bit choppy.  We settled for a little walk along the shoreline and a little lunch on the banks of lake.  In this picture, you see they have set up chairs for an evening wedding.  We saw at least 2 weddings being set up for that evening.  A lovely location.



The view of Quinault Lake from our RV site.  It was a beautiful setting.  We did take a little canoe ride on the lake.  It started off easy and fun, but ended with the wind coming up and us having to "tow" the boat back to our place for at least 1 mile or more.  By tow I mean, walk along the shoreline (in the water) Kevin pulling the boat and me at the back hanging onto a rope.  Quite a sight!  The water was up to the pockets of my shorts, but at least it was a mild temperature - not too cold!



Our last stop was a couple of days at the beach.  I love hearing the sounds of the ocean and walking along the beach.  We also took a little bike ride into Ocean Shores and looked through the tourist shops.  Bought some salt water taffy and sea foam chocolate, wouldn't be a trip to the beach without both of these!

 



Just before we went on our camping trip, we had a little visit from a dear friend from my past.  Holly Wilson and I taught together 30 years ago at Monte Vista School.  Holly retired this summer and her and her husband, Jim, have been on a month long trip up the Oregon coast and an Alaskan cruise.  She stopped in to visit me and we took a side trip to Multnomah Falls, had dinner and took this picture in front of the Falls.  Thanks for visiting me Holly!!

And finally, let me end with this cute picture of Noah.  He looks like he just got caught with his hand in the cookie jar....love this boy and he loves his "ampa" and "ama".
